B COOL A/S provides technical consultancy at major modernization project in Hamar
In 2016, Hamar Olympiske Anlegg was granted funding from Hamar Municipality and the Norwegian government to modernize the Viking ship. The modernization would lead to a lifetime extension of the Viking ship’s pipe system in the ice rink as well as securing a more energy efficient operation, which meant that 10,000 m3 concrete had to be cut up in order to replace the existing 120,000 meters of PE pipes which which had had leakage problems since the Olympics in 1994. At the same time Hamar Olympiske Anlegg wanted to get the refrigeration divided into sections and upgraded the whole plant to run on booster-pump operation which ensures a more precise regulation of the ice temperature within each section.
During the conversion process, which lasted for almost half a year, B COOL assisted with technical support and consultancy both on site and remotely. The focus of the consultancy was to critically compare theory, drawings, and calculations with the practical execution on site. Additionally, B COOL assisted with various tests of the new booster system to quality assure the most optimal operation. B COOL has been a faithful partner to the Viking ship since 2006, where the ammonia refrigeration unit was modernized and every year since then B COOL has been represented in the Viking ship at major international championships such as EM, WM, WC etc.
